The Fourth International Forum “Transport Science: Innovative Solutions for Business”, the key event of day three of EXPO 1520

The Fourth International Forum “Transport Science: Innovative Solutions for Business” was the keynote event of day three of the EXPO 1520 Fair. It focused on high-speed rail in Russia. Plenary session participants discussed the social and economic pre-requisites for creating high-speed rail communications in Russia and listened to presentations by international speakers.

In his welcome address to the Forum participants, Senior Vice-President for Innovative Development and Chief Engineer of Russian Railways Valentin Gapanovich emphasised the importance of training highly skilled personnel: “Professional training is an urgent matter for the Russian Federation that should be discussed at all levels of government.”

OAO VNIIZhT CEO Boris Lapidus pointed out the importance of the railway industry for Russia today, adding: “Russia now needs tools for long-term social development.” According to him, it is those tools that will help Russia overcome its economic and social challenges.

Global Account Manager Mobility Department, Siemens Russia, Rolf Epstein presented a project for a high-speed freight train and listed the key success factors of Europe’s high-speed lines. “Today, a trip by high-speed rail between Paris and Frankfurt takes hardly any longer than an airline flight on exactly same route,” he added. International speakers shared global high-speed line construction expertise with their Russian colleagues and expressed readiness to engage in joint projects with Russia.

The “Choice of Optimal Technical Solutions and Development of Innovative Technologies in High-Speed Transport” panel discussion was dedicated to management of high-speed traffic, as well as environmental issues associated with developing high-speed rail.

Owing to the high standard of the Fair’s organisation, its unique character and scale in the 1520-gauge area, as well as active involvement of international companies, numerous high-ranking government officials, heads of railway ministries and CEOs of major European corporations visit the event as distinguished guests and delegates.
