Exhibition-on-rails at EXPO 1520

A record amount of equipment will be presented from 11 to 14 September 2013 during the live demonstration at EXPO 1520

A record amount of equipment will be presented from 11 to 14 September 2013 during the live demonstration of rolling stock at the traditional International Rail Salon of Engineering and Technologies EXPO 1520, which will take place for the fourth time in Shcherbinka (Moscow) at the VNIIZhT Experimental Ring.

On the opening day of the Salon, 11 September, Rossiya 24 TV will carry a live broadcast of the exhibition’s live display. The broadcast will begin at 13:00 Moscow Time.

During EXPO 1520, visitors will have the opportunity twice a day, at 12:00 and 16:00, to admire the more than 40 live exhibits, from Russian railways’ oldest functioning steam locomotives to modern rolling stock, including specialist road-rail equipment, an accident recovery train and a fire-fighting train.

It will be possible to take a ride on some of the equipment being presented. For example, those interested will have an opportunity to try out double-decker sleeping cars created using the latest technologies, equipment and materials, while they are moving. Taking a familiarisation ride on the ED4M500 direct current electric train made by Transmashholding and the FLIRT diesel train manufactured by the Swiss company Stadler Bussnang AG will enable visitors to make a better judgement on the advantages of each of them.

For the Russian train these are its airtight sliding plug doors and inter-carriage gangways, the zero-play inter-carriage coupling devices, which provide a smoother ride and low noise levels, the environmentally friendly toilet system, designed for use by people with disabilities, the passing places for wheelchair users and the video surveillance system in the passenger saloons and the vestibules.

The distinguishing features of the FLIRT diesel train, which was built for inter-regional services in Estonia, are the insignificant levels of noise and vibration in the passenger saloon, since the diesel motor and propulsion system are located in a separate power unit, and also the optimal heat insulation and spacious zones with a lower floor area.

As always, the Salon will include the VI International Conference “Railway Engineering: Prospects, Technologies, Priorities”, devoted to the most important issues concerning railway engineering, updating the rolling stock fleet, innovative and investment activity, and also presentations of the latest achievements in the field of railway technologies.

It is expected that EXPO 1520 will have more than 14,000 participants and visitors.

Applications for accreditation to the IV International Rail Salon of Engineering and Technologies EXPO 1520 are now being accepted. The form and terms of accreditation are available at expo1520.ru, in the Accreditation section. Applications may be made until 6 September 2013.
