Unique 19th century retro train at EXPO 1520

The Ь series unique retro train can be seen for the first time in the EXPO 1520 Railway Fair’s show programme from August 30 to September 2. The locomotive steam train was thoroughly repaired using original manufacturer’s technologies and was painted the way it was done in the 19th century specially for the Sixth International Fair in Shcherbinka.

Restoring the Ь-2012 train to its operational condition is a great achievement in the history of Russian Railways and the retro-movement. This can be attributed to the work of Roslavl veterans who preserved for us this unique vehicle.

Ь is not a complete replica of the original train, but it has flat slide valves, a single-disk piston, a throttle, original rods, a frame and a boiler. The locomotive was built at the Kolomna plant in 1897, ran at the Vladikavkaz railroad, was evacuated to the Roslavl depot during the war, where it remained in active operation till the late 1970s, and later on was installed on a pedestal there.
