Railway transport today must meet the global challenges of the 21st century. We face ambitious tasks of creating new testing grounds for high-speed transport, ensuring passenger comfort and safety, developing an affordable pricing policy, building on the country's transit capabilities, and meeting comprehensive needs of freighters through the advantages of modern rolling stock.

Therefore the International Railway Salon EXPO 1520 is a momentous event and significant stage in the reform of railway transport and in the preservation of the 1520 area.

The Railway Salon is worth of support and particular attention as it promotes the development the transport sector of our country, strengthens partnerships with our colleagues abroad, and helps exchange best international practices.

The dynamic growth of the Russian economy is boosting the demand for freight and passenger carriage, for greater speed, quality and safety, so large-scale modernisation of the transport infrastructure is a key task in developing Russia’s railway sector.

Thanks to the intensive development of the infrastructure, railway transport is becoming more efficient in production, technological and economic terms, and this will ensure reduced transportation costs and allow the resources thus released to be used in other sectors of the country’s economy.

That will enable the state, railway enterprises and investors to attain significant economic results and will create the conditions for transport support for the country’s social and economic growth.

The holding of the III International Salon EXPO 1520 is a timely and important milestone in development of the infrastructure and the transport complex as a whole. I am convinced that the Salon will strengthen existing partnership relations and generate new projects.

The Russian Technologies State Corporation

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the Russian Technologies State Corporation I would like to welcome the participants, guests and organisers of the III International Salon EXPO 1520.

Recent years have seen positive trends in the development of high-tech industry in Russia. The state assigns priority to innovation, which it sees as a guarantee of sustained economic development in the country. In this connection, this year’s EXPO 1520, which has brought together leading Russian and foreign transport machine-building enterprises, is called upon to make a tangible contribution to modernisation of Russian industry, to making it more competitive and give it more investment appeal.

The main aim of the Salon and the IV International Conference Railway Engineering. Prospects, Technologies, Priorities held within its framework is to demonstrate the achievements of Russian and world railway technology, to create conditions for rolling out domestic technologies to world markets, to bring foreign holders of advanced technologies into the sphere of interest of the Russian machine-building industry and to promote implementation of major international projects.

A distinguishing feature of EXPO 1520 is its vast business programme aimed at a comprehensive discussion of strategic issues of the railway sector, enhancing its competitiveness and strengthening international cooperation.

In its diverse activities, the Russian Technologies focuses constantly on the railway sector. Not by chance did the railway-related project of the “flexible wheel”, developed by Valery Shiler of Omsk Railway University, win the top prize in a recent competition of innovative ideas organised by us. Implementation of that idea will dramatically reduce noise, vibration and locomotive traction. The State Corporation will offer this and other similar projects to enterprises belonging to  Russian Technologies holding companies and will promote them at exhibitions in this country and abroad.

I sincerely wish the participants in the Salon fruitful work, effective meetings and stronger partnerships.

General Director, The Russian Technologies State Corporation   Sergey Chemezov
