EXPO 1520 to Host First Ever Dynamic Demonstration of Knyaz Vladimir Freight Locomotive

A dynamic demonstration of the International Fair of Railway Equipment and Technologies EXPO 1520 will for the first time present a dual-system (i.e. using both DC as AC) electric locomotive 2EV120 Knyaz Vladimir in motion.

The locomotive is unparalleled in Russia and capable of hauling heavy freight trains weighing seven to nine tons at temperatures ranging from -55°C to +45°C. It is designed to work on long railway sections (2000-3000 km) of CIS countries with the 1520 mm gauge.

Visitors to the Salon in Shcherbinka will have an opportunity to see a two-unit locomotive on the static display on railroad tracks (site 63/1).

2EV120 Knyaz Vladimir was designed by First Locomotive Company (FLC) together with Bombardier Transportation with the use of the European partner’s experience gained during design, manufacture and operation of freight locomotives of TRAXX ERP SYSTEMS family, including heavy main-line ore locomotives known as Kiruna. Locomotives are produced in the town of Engels, Saratov region.

The 6th International Fair of Railway Equipment and Technologies EXPO 1520  will be held on August 30 - September 2 on the territory of the Experimental Loop of JSC Russian Railway Research Institute (VNIIZhT) in Shcherbinka, Moscow. Five covered pavilions and 150 advanced full-scale specimens of rolling stock and infrastructure will be located on the exhibition area of 8,000 sq. m.

Besides, participants and specialists will have the opportunity to enjoy an extensive business programme. Within the framework of the International Conference Railway Engineering. Prospects, Technologies, Priorities,a series of discussions and round tables will be held on the development of communication technologies in rail transport, global engineering, cyber safety and other issues.

During EXPO 1520, visitors will be able to get to the venue by suburban train from Kursky railway station to Shcherbinka and back free of charge.

The 6th International Fair of the Railway Equipment and Technologies will be held at the VNIIZhT Experimental Ring in Sherbinka, Moscow, on 30 August - 2 September 2017.

EXPO 1520 is Europe’s unique and only fair of railway equipment and technology for the “wide” gauge space. The exhibition showcases the latest rolling stock, railway machinery, components and equipment manufactured in Russia, the CIS and the EU. The 2013 exhibition made it into the Guinness Book of Records in terms of the number of real-life railway equipment exhibits (127) put on display in Eastern Europe.

The fair’s highlight is a dynamic demonstration of the full range of operating characteristics of Russian and foreign-made locomotives and rolling stock. The venue is outfitted with special grandstands for convenient viewing of equipment in motion.

The fair’s audience consists of executives and specialists of Russian and international manufacturers and operators of railway equipment from both “narrow” and “wide” gauge countries.
